MACHINE FIELD GUIDE / THE TOOL DOES THE WORK
Excavator attachment hire
Hammers, augers, tilt buckets, grabs, rippers, compaction wheels and mulchers turn an excavator into a specialist machine. Compatibility with the host machine's coupler, hydraulic flow and rated capacity decides whether an attachment works on the day.

QUOTE CHECK
What to specify.
- Host machine make, model and operating weight
- Coupler or hitch type and pin sizes
- Auxiliary hydraulic flow and pressure available
- Material strength or hole diameter and depth
- Whether hoses, pins and adaptor plates are included
Watch points.
A hammer that is too heavy for the carrier affects stability and warranty.
Attachments change the lift chart and reduce available lifting capacity.
Hammer tools and auger teeth are wear items and may be charged separately.
Rates for excavator attachment hire vary with size, location, duration, operator arrangement and transport. Read the plant hire cost guide and the wet vs dry hire comparison before comparing quotes, and use the supplier checklist to confirm the details.
FIELD FAQ
Excavator attachment hire questions
- Can I hire an attachment for my own excavator?
- Yes, if the attachment matches your coupler and hydraulics. Give the supplier the machine model, hitch type and auxiliary flow so they can confirm fit and supply the right pins or adaptor.
- How is hammer wear charged?
- Many suppliers charge for tool (chisel) wear or bushings beyond fair wear. Ask how wear is measured and record the tool condition at handover.
- Do attachments affect lifting?
- Yes. The attachment's mass is deducted from the machine's rated capacity. If the excavator is also lifting, use the lift chart with the attachment fitted.
