Can I hire a mini excavator without an operator?

Many suppliers offer dry hire of mini excavators to competent users, often with a familiarisation at handover. Expect to be asked about experience and to accept responsibility for damage and safe use.

Will a mini excavator fit through my side gate?

The smallest units are around 700–1000 mm wide with tracks retracted. Measure the narrowest point, including downpipes, meters and fences, and give the supplier that figure rather than the gate width.

Can a car tow a mini excavator?

Some micro units on a tag trailer are within the towing capacity of a large ute or 4WD, but the combined trailer mass must be within the vehicle and tow bar ratings. Most suppliers deliver on a truck to avoid this risk.

Watch points.

Rubber tracks reduce surface damage but still mark soft lawns.

Spoil removal often needs a skid steer, tipper or skip alongside the mini.
