Dozer hire

Bulldozers push, rip and shape large volumes over short distances. They are central to clearing, dam building, bulk earthworks and haul-road construction, and their size is chosen by blade, ripper and ground conditions rather than by hours alone.

QUOTE CHECK

What to specify.

  1. Material hardness and whether ripping is needed
  2. Blade type (straight, semi-U, U, six-way)
  3. Push distance and slope
  4. Clearing standard and vegetation approvals
  5. GPS or machine control requirements

Watch points.

Large dozers need an oversize float, permits and sometimes escorts.

Ripping hard rock accelerates undercarriage and ground-engaging tool wear.

Clearing native vegetation needs the relevant approvals before work starts.

Rates for dozer hire vary with size, location, duration, operator arrangement and transport. Read the plant hire cost guide and the wet vs dry hire comparison before comparing quotes, and use the supplier checklist to confirm the details.

FIELD FAQ

Dozer hire questions

What size dozer do I need for a farm dam?
Small dams and tracks are often done with a D4–D6 class machine. Larger dams, heavy clay or rock may need a D7 or bigger. Soil suitability and compaction matter as much as machine size.
Is a dozer or excavator better for clearing?
Dozers clear large, open areas quickly. Excavators with grabs or mulchers are more selective around retained trees, fences and steep ground.
How is dozer hire usually charged?
Commonly by the hour with a minimum, plus float transport. Ask about ripper use, GET wear, fuel and travel for remote properties.
